Axis Syllabus teacher candidates Kathleen Rea and Claire Turner Reid explore and practice the transmission of the Axis Syllabus. The common focus of this period will be the vast and intricate concept of the fascial web. Leading the classes in turn, each candidate will explore the fascial web through a unique lens, inspired by different yet complementary backgrounds. They will work with set and improvised movement, introduce and discuss imagery and conceptual ideas, and present the scientific information consolidated in the Axis Syllabus in support of a fascinating investigation into human anatomy. Home dance studio in the Roncesvalles/High-Park area of Toronto. Upon registration, you will be sent the address.

Five Thursday evening sessions
6:00 pm to 8:00 pm

What is the Axis Syllabus?
The Axis Syllabus, first consolidated by Frey Faust, is a collection of anatomical attributes and ways of moving that are basically safe and energy conservative. The Axis Syllabus seeks to provide accessible information on body alignment and movement practices using physics, anatomy and relevant scientific data from various fields, as a guide. In classes led by teachers of the Axis Syllabus, spiral and wave-like movements are often used to create kinetic energy and minimize excess tension. Exercises can prompt internal discoveries that people can transfer into their daily life or any activity with a movement focus. For more info see: http://axissyllabus.org/
 
 
Biographies of Teacher Candidates:
Claire Turner Reid (Axis Syllabus Teacher Candidate) is a dancer, teacher, internal martial artist, and movement coach. With extensive study and performance in dance, theatre, and movement arts, Claire currently teaches Qigong, Tai Chi Chuan, and Contemporary Dance to youth, adults, and seniors. Her current focus is an ongoing study of Qigong, Tai Chi Chuan, Baguazhang, and Kung Fu at Spiritwind Internal Arts as well as a passion for human design and movement facilitated by her engagement with the research of the Axis Syllabus International Research Community (ASIRC). Claire is a certified Qigong and Tai Chi Chuan teacher as well as a Level I Radiant Lotus Women’s Qigong Teacher and continues to deepen her Qigong practice under the mentorship of Sifu Dylan Kirk and Sifu Daisy Lee. Drawing on her diverse experience in movement and performing arts, Claire continues to explore new ways of moving, being, and learning. She uses movement practices as a way to deepen awareness and connection, with a focus on honouring the integrity of the body.
 
Kathleen Rea (Axis Syllabus Teacher Candidate) danced with Ballet Jörgen Canada, National Ballet of Canada & Tiroler Landestheater (Austria). She has Master's degree in expressive arts therapy and is a registered Psychotherapist (CRPO). Kathleen teaches Contact Dance at George Brown Dance and Niagara College. She has choreographed over 40 dance works for her company REAson d’etre dance productions & other organizations. She was nominated for five DORA awards and is a winner of the K. M. Hunter Award.
